I have a 3 month old mille fleur duccle chick that has something wrong with his comb, but is otherwise acting as he normally does. What's wrong with his comb? I noticed it starting to slowly blacken the past couple days and I thought it was due to genes, but now I'm sure its some kind of disease. How do I treat it and do I have to quarantine him away from the others? The others don't have this issue.

There's a thing called poultry face mites. Like all other mites, they can suck blood out of the tissues and they may have killed this poor rooster's comb.

Try a thick coating of Vaseline on the comb and anywhere else on the face that appears scaly. Re-apply daily for the next week.

Those blackened spots may not survive. But the Vaseline may smother and kill the mites.

Another treatment that works from the inside out is Ivermectin 1%. You extract it from the vial with a needle syringe and put about five drops on the back of the roosters neck on his bare skin.

One or the other treatment should work.
