Black Copper Maran Eggs

Did you get your eggs shipped, or buy live chicks? Feel free to post pics. This thread is going to have more photos than the rooster contest! C'mon, show us what you got!

I'll have to get pics - I just moved them to the "big kid" brooder outside, they love it! I got my eggs here, in Durham, from Carla Freestep at Freestep Farm, I picked them up at her house, so no shipping, and hatched them myself. As I said, no idea what "line" or such, I'm just a pet owned, close to the breeds description is good enough kinda gal, not showing or selling for myself, and they were beautiful, dark eggs. I do love this thread, if it's okay to keep pitching in! Marans have become one of my favs - I have quite a few Cuckoo Marans, and love them.

All of these Marans pics are beautiful - You all have such pretty birds! I'm getting more fond of the black variety of birds, cause any of my white shades of bird turn red in my dirt, cause they roll around in it to "dye" their feathers....not a white shaded bird left in my flock?

The more I see the Wheaten variety, the more I like those as well. I think the Wheaten hens are really pretty.
I went to the Marans club page a couple nights ago and saw a picture of what they referred to as a "Yellow Cuckoo" that was very cool looking. I guess that would be a very rare one.

and then off topic:
My own Cuckoo Marans Rooster, the king of the yard. He's so sweet and gentle, lets me pet him and walk right up to him, but keeps watch over all of his "ladies."

Thanks for posting those pics. Your cuckoo is really flashy looking! A couple of my copper black roo babies are finally starting to look like "real" roosters now, with hanging hackles and saddle feathers. Not like yours yet, but getting there. It is so much FUN to watch them grow up. They change so much so quickly!

My babies are hatched, my babies are hatched!!!

The eggs I bid on from bayhorsebonne are chicks and I will be picking them up soon. I can't wait to see the little fuzzy devils.

OK Deal!
Say a prayer to the Pullet Gods for me

I feel like I need to have a magic pullet wand with me when I pick them out.

But, the mystery of not knowing what I'll end up with is kind of fun... I think.

unless they all end up being roos....

I hope to get some of Bayhorsebonne's eggs in the future too, they are soooo nice, and would be good to add to my own Black Coppers when they're older. It looks like California is going to be overrun with Marans!

About the Roosters, just enjoy the mystery stage! It's fun right up til they crow!

Actually, we enjoy all of our roosters, and DH and I lay in bed in the morning and laugh, naming who's who in the crowing line up.....We have three silkie boys, each with a distinctive crow of their own, a Mille Fluer Frizzle, the only "little boy" in the yard, our large Cuckoo Marans Rooster (He can crow!) and P.J. - a really large Jersey Giant/cochin mix who still thinks he's a chick/hen. (We babied him too long I guess) and he has an almost embarrassed sound to his crow!

Enjoy the fuzzies, and Post Pics!

It must've been yours she was talking about when she said she just hatched some for a person and they are so beautiful and lively.
