I bought French Black Copper Marans in Deere Park WA, They are approx. 7 weeks old Legs are extremely feathered. Feet and shank are yellow. 7 chics straight run 5 cockerals One has cooper hackels and crowing. The feet should not still be yellow, right. Help
The question is should these birds still have yellow feet and shanks at 7-8 weeks old !!!
Therefore they are not Black Copper Marans.
Quote: Thank you Snowbird.... I am only keeping one from this batch and I have a second batch about a month in age behind them.... I am going to do my first cull on the second batch this weekend. After raising this batch I know what I am looking for in these birds, all are the same breeding. Some of the cockerels are a little lanky with just a little narrower body. I picked this one from the beginning and I see a few more like him in the second batch. Also better combs on them. The pullets look good too. I am pleased with them so far. All the birds I have liked the best have been slow feathering with a lot less coloring than the lankier cockerels. In the second picture you can see the two types I see in this breeding. Thank you again.
