Black Copper Marans discussion thread

Here are some examples.

The first one is the one I do not know although I suspect male. I am guessing the second one is male and the last one is female.

The males also seem to consistently have color on their necks.

I will agree that you appear to have some BC Marans that are of good quality. The first two are for sure males, The last one sure looks like it could be a pullet and in a couple of weeks you can tell for sure. Nice Marans.

I have a FCM rooster 'Stella' (thought he was a she for a bit and the name stuck). He has feathers on his feet. I've been looking at the pictures and don't see them on some . Are the feathered feet common or unusual? Btw- Stella is a great rooster- great personality and good to my girls.

If you are breeding to the APA SOP they must have feathered legs and outer toe. You will see some without the feathers and you do not want these if you are breeding to the SOP.

I had gotten the above eggs from a gal I know who has pure BCM eggs. she only had 4 for me, so I got 4 Blue isbar eggs, (I have isbars already), and 4 SFH eggs. I gave them to 2 broody hens. one hen ate 3 BCM eggs and 3 of the other eggs were duds. (one BI, and 2 SFH) I put the remaining eggs under the good broody. I wanted more than 1 BCM egg, so I asked the gal if she had more for me. She said only one hen was laying fertile and she just went broody, and she had sold her eggs to a near by natural food store. I ran to that store 45 min. away and bought all the BCM eggs 5 SFH eggs and one BI egg. the 3 eggs to the bottom right were from my coop. 2 olive egger/BI eggs and one LO/BI/australorp egg. they went in incubator.

I have 2 for sure fbcm that I'm 100% sure one is roo and 99% sure other one is too. I also have another fbcm that I think is a pullet but I can't tell if she is a pure or one of the ones I crossed to make olive eggers. They are 7 weeks.

Roo#1 nice copper coming in on neck, back and wings.

What I'm 99% sure is roo #2 based on comb and waddles. But is about half the size of first roo and no color coming in yet.

What I think is a pullet but not sure if pure fbcm. She isn't built like the boys but wasn't sure if that's a boy vs girl thing. She also feathered in way faster. She's more round. The boys are really long legged and lean. They also have huge shank feathers and hers are way smaller.

they look like 2 boys and a girl. your girl looks like pure bcm (if I see well she has a single comb). bcm crossed with pea comb birds would have a modified pea comb.
