Black Copper Marans discussion thread

Don, Out of the three birds above! Picture 4 and 5 are the same bird #90! Maybe a keeper? Only 2 of my Black Copper pullets are showing color and two are not! My two blue copper pullets have no copper showing. I will probably do a blue/black pen at this point. I am thinking next year of doing a solid black pen. Getting chicks from different source.

Just remember that the pure Black colored chicks will not breed true if bred together, they will still have the Copper influence.

I would not use this male for breeding unless he was your only option.

He is not my only option! I will culling him! There are 2 other Black Coppers that I need to get pictures. I also have 4 Blue Coppers to pic from.



This is the Blue Copper that I like! What do you think of him? The only one out of 4 that has Copper.

How do you know if they are pure Black or Black Coppers that are over melanized? Same with the blues and blue Copper? I was told that these where from a Black Copper/Blue Copper breeding. I hear they are mixed together with the pure BC. Thats how sc got the one Blue Copper.


Three of my Blue Copper roosters look like the one in the center of the picture! Is there a chance that they are not Blue Coppers but Blues? They show no Copper at all!

Yes I was told that! I don't think we are on the same page! I guess what I am trying to get at is! There is no chance of a Pure Black Copper breeding program. If these happened to be Blues and not blue Coppers. How would that effect a Blue Copper/ Black copper breeding?
