Does French Black Copper Marans normally takes laying breaks often? Seems like mine takes breaks every 4-5 months of laying.

Do you have a lot of feathers everywhere? Are they molting?

Nope, they did this few times before. When they first started laying August of 2015 by December they were on break then started again in February 2016 then took a few weeks off in June. Then started laying again, they'd been off laying since last week of August so I haven't seen dark brown eggs for awhile.

Sound like they are gong thru a molt every six months instead of once a year. They can do this if their molts are very light. Try beefing up their protein maybe this will help get them back on track.

It is "normal" for all chickens, however it isn't typical of the breed.

Especially at that age.

I have 9 Marans and none have gone broody, ever haha.

It could happen with any breed, my one Australorps started laying eggs for a month then went broody, she was only 5 months old. So does my 1 leghorn that went broody on me after 6 months of laying, w/c are known not to go broody.
