Nothing wrong with a few speckles :p I have a solid blue Marans hen that lays speckled eggs. I love them.

I don't have a problem at all with the speckles, it's the overall color~It's the egg on the right in this photo:

This is the usual color, with occasional dark speckling. The egg on the left is either a buff orpington or Jersey giant.

droooooling! Hoping mine are somewhere near the color of yours, speckled or not! But they only hatched in Dec..... figure they won't lay before June at the earliest.....

I have a question. First, I apologize for not reading all 614 pages of this thread, so if this has been asked and answered, sorry. I ordered some fertile BCM eggs from the chicken chick, who seems to be pretty reliable. I got 3 BCM eggs, 4 olive eggers and she threw in a couple of what looks to be Easter eggers as extras. When candling them tonight on day 14, none of the three BCM's appear to be fertile. I can't see in the olive eggers and the Easter eggers are developing normally. My last mail order hatch of Easter eggers and black australorps ended up with 23 of 26 eggs hatched (from Meyers). I am doing everything the same and staying attentive to the incubator. So I guess my question is, are BCM's harder to hatch than other breeds?

There is a general consensus that BCMs are at least slightly harder to hatch, some people think much harder.

You can't tell fertility by candling. If they are candling clear at 14 days, very gently crack them open and look for any development of the germinal disc. Google for lots of good photos. If you can't see in the olive eggers that's a good sign... keep them going just in case.

The BC Marans are no different than any other chicken egg. I have hatched several thousand of them . This week had 11 out of 13 hatch .
