Hi when you say open tails, does this mean v shaped viewed from behind ?
Some of my marans have the v and I guess some are pinched.

A wide inverted "V" yes, like a wide tent shape.

Thankyou , I will go today and have a look to see if I'm lucky enough to have some with a good v .
I shall be kneeling in the yard , peering at those fluffy butts.

Looks pinched to me. Wide tails will also have wide backs at the tail.

By the way marans is ALWAYS spelled with a "S"

Yes I do know about Marans spelling, but just choose as username as had nice ring to it.
Will have try harder with the tails I guess.
