Black Copper Marans discussion thread

Haha, thanks =) Unfortunatly, I don't have room for anymore birds, once not being able to find any blues, I stocked up to the max with the other breeds I planned on getting. I am hoping to make a new coop soon, so maybe I'll change the plans to make it large enough for some =) Chicken math is true, started with six, now have twenty-two! lol. I
haha, I won't say how many I have

Haha, I also raise my dad's birds, so that affects numbers, as well as the different breeds I raise.

Yes, thank you. I have compared, just wanted an opinion. I am starting to think 4-5 :(. Still able to call them BCM,but I need to find some darker eggs to start hatching. Too bad, I spent quite a bit of money on the quad, should have just purchased eggs to know what I would end up eith

no guarntee there either. Might as well breed and set from the best looking, darkest laying birds you have now and see what the offspring produce. I understand that there are multiple genes that affect egg color. My thinking is that by line breeding (mothers to son and fathers to daughters) then you can concentrate the number of genes that produce dark eggs and over time they get darker. Of course that is just my theory that I have thought of from all the reading I have done here. I don't have any experience with it yet, cuz my first pullet just started laying this week ;-)

Mary, I am doing basically what you say with my Marans. We have two different groups hatching today and have large expectations from them as I know the persons they came from.
