Black Copper Marans discussion thread

Aloha,

I have some newborn BCMs and most of their feet are not slate, more like yellow ish. Will it change to slate later on?

Mahalo, Puhi

Give it a little time as most chicks in the Marans are hatched with yellow feet. They will change a little every day.

I wanted to know if he is a quality roo
First things first. What are your intentions for the Marans Breed. Are you just looking to enjoy them, breed them, what? Are you an individual that wants to breed to the standard? Do you get upset when people give you honest feed back?

I want honest feed back. I don't get upset if it's not good. I am just having fun with them right now but want to improve the breed. If he's not up to standards I'd like to cull him or use him in cross breeding Thanks julie

Aloha,

Iʻm a total amateur but Iʻll give it a shot. The feet are yellow. I was just asking about yellow feet because theyʻre supposed to be slate or black(as an adult I guess). Yourʻs has yellow feet.

Good feathering on feet(only on the outside) but kinda sparse, and the back has way too much copper. They only want copper on the neck hackles. They will want to see the breast. The body looks good, good tail angle. The white feather on the side is not good as an adult.

I am not sure how many points there is supposed to be on the comb but perhaps there is a slight "fingerprint" indenture.

The yellow feet are a sign of cross breeding somewhere back, not sure how hard that would be to breed out, might take several generations. So itʻs a cull.

What do you think guys?

Thanks for the answer on the chicky feet.

Aloha, Puhi

I thought he had to much color but wasn't sure. I never even realized his feet are yellow. Lol. Thanks everyone. That is what I needed to know. .

Also The male has a wing issue. Either Split-Wing or maybe what they call Twisted Feather. You may want to do some research on that and take a look at that males wing so you know for the future. Its definitely doesnt look right. So from all the issues you have, your efforts would probably be better served looking for a better male to use. You will be a lot better off.
