Black Copper Marans discussion thread

All of my Marans have feathered legs. I assumed it was a standard like @RedBanks mentioned. But I guess if I were to buy chicks, pullets, or Roosters I'd ask if their legs were feathered.

Unless a person has direct import BC Marans there is no need for the French in front of BC. The English are not recognized here in the USA. I do not think they will ever be accepted by the APA.
You will get some chicks from feathered leg parents that will be cleaned leg. These also can be bred into your flock if need be.

My Blue Copper and Black Copper Marans chicks that just came in the mail yesterday already have wing feathers. Do Marans feather in quicker? How old do you think they are? I would have guessed a week old. Only one has little feathers.

From what little I do know I would say these were not just hatched, It doesn't really make that much difference. In a couple of weeks you will not know the difference.

mine had wing feathers at 1 week. I believe 1 is girl and 1 boy. they both have the same feathers, even tails. 1 (girl) has a kind of v-shape tail and another one (boy) has a flat tail with feathers sort of lined up. they will be 2 weeks old on saturday.

Here it goes!
I have no idea about chicken genetics!
But....
I have a BCM hen and rooster. Both with feathered legs.
I just watched one of their eggs hatch. The only dark brown egg inside the incubator!
It just hatched.
The chick is not black like mom and dad when they hatched!!!!
What is going on??? It seems to be gray and white with a light colored beak.
Can two blacks make a blue?

Mom and dad are BLACK!
I got the eggs they are hatched from off a breeder. I made sure I kept the eggs from 2 different pens separated and kept one hen and one rooster.
I only saw blacks at the breeders place!!! Not one blue in sight!
Only have a pic of Daddy when he was about 6/7months old
