Black Copper Marans discussion thread

Okay... just came back upstairs from checking on the babes. I had planned on marking one as he/she had not been as thrifty as the rest and I want to breed for vigor from the start. But now I have noticed that he/she is the only one with yellow feathers on its legs. All the rest have black feathering. Is this just because it is so young or is this a bad sign for type?

Thanks!

Hey guys, I need some help again, it's time i make some more culls. Does anyone have a really good link that shows improper and proper comb types, feather pattern and body type for black copper marans?

A general observation made by some on this thread, including me, is that chicks with more yellow overall, tend to feather out darker then the birds with less yellow or white chickdown. What I have found is the chicks with the least amount of white - on neck, face, etc. tend to have more copper as adults.

Hello everyone! I hatched five chicks October 4th. I'm completely new to this breed and wondered if anyone would give me their opinion on my birds. Should I post pictures on this thread or start a new one? I'll keep my two pullets since what I really want is dark eggs, but I notice one has yellow legs and the other doesn't. I'd also like to keep just one of my boys and have no idea what I'm looking for.

Thanks!
