Not sure if this thread is too old, but I’ve read the entire thing and still have seemed unable to find a BCM chick with a spot on its head! These are my two babies, exactly 7 days old, so I’m not necessarily looking for sexing unless something is completely obvious that I’ve missed. Are these both true BCM?

I’ve bought a few BCM day old chicks... The head spot should represent barring, not pure black. The second looks more like a solid black chick, except, is that white at the bottom on the wing? Are they from a clean legged line? Ours have lightly feathered legs as chicks. Legs and feet should also be solid black.

So they are from a clean legged line. And from previous comments in this thread I’ve read that their legs are supposed to be dark with pale pink or yellow toes. The second chick is all black except white tipped wings and white breast

I asked for a picture of the parents and this is what he sent me! Dad in the bottom left and mom(s) all around

I’m not an expert. I just happened to have both breeds. They could be mixed. Copper marans have feather legs and I don’t see any feathers on the dad and the all black hen if she’s a hen looks like a australorp. They are great people here that can tell you probably when they get a little older. No matter what they are they are supper cute!

I’m thinking Tyson and Dakota are boys - interestingly, I have 2 Black Copper Marans but I got them as pullets. Wish I had seen them when they were babes - yours are SO cute!!! Good luck no matter how it turns out.
