I also have most of my shopping done before October. I shop all year long for special gifts, go ahead and get them wrapped and addressed. Keep a list on file on pc, linked to my smartphone and a hard copy in top drawer of spare highboy dresser in extra bedroom. Hubby know this is off limits. Also keep quick extra gifts in it.

I will start my next year gift shopping when all the good sales start this year. You hear people say they want to shave a peach to save money, WELL I WILL SHAVE A GRAPE.....

The only reason I went was because they had an exclusive on a Mario DS my daughter really wanted. I got there 3 hours before opening and the line was already completely looped around the building. They opened late and there was lots of cutting in line and pushing and shoving by people who'd just shown up because there was zero crowd control - it got pretty ugly. When I got in I discovered that the items on my list (all electronics) hadn't even been brought out or displayed yet - another 2-hour wait. The employees didn't seem to have any direction or know what to do. And when it came time to check out - you guessed it, no crowd control.
It was a nightmare and IMHO not worth the time or effort. But hey, at least there wasn't a killer stampede like what happened in New York a few years back...good luck to the brave souls who are going to try it this year!

I watched the aftermath and tired people walking out of the local grocery store last year. All the cheap stuff I wanted to get was still there at 10AM so I just slept in and grabbed everything while smirking at the tired faces. Me not a shopaholic. Unless it comes to livestock. But they don't have black friday livestock auctions.

I don't do Black Fridays...its ridiculous. I've already did some of my shopping online for my daughter's Xmas gifts and now I'll have to do hubby's, my nephews and a niece. For the adults, just food and good time!

I avoid Wal-Mart on a regular basis (holla for Target!), so you'll never catch me there on Black Friday. It's just insanity and it's not worth it.

about 8 years ago we ran out of dog food thursday night.. decided if I waited til around 10 AM black friday morning it wouldnt be too bad at walmart... boy was i wrong..

there were more carts in the store than I thought it was possible for them to have (I have to believe they had extras in storage and brought them out just for Black Friday).. literally bumper to bumper with shopping carts.. people pushing and shoving.. everyone of them just KNEW I was there to steal their very special bargains.. wouldn't let me through even though I told them I only wanted a bag of dog food.. I got cursed at.. glared at.. and even snarled at...
so i ended up waiting in the line for TVs just to try to get around a corner to go past the line for laptops to head over to the pet section.. the customers in that store were rabid.. the employes were dazed and confused.. i finally got the dog food and tried to get to the checkout.. ended up heading over into the grocery section which amazingly was empty of shoppers.. except for one scared man.. he was in shock.. hugging a coffee maker and mumbling to himself... I don't know if he had gotten separated from his spouse or if he had been silly enough to brave it alone.. for all i know he may still be there.. hugging his coffee maker...
when i finally got to the checkout there were no lines.. no other customers.. and only one checkout open.. the cashier told me she had only had three people make it to the cash register so far that morning.. and she had been there since about 4 AM...

I swore i would never set foot in walmart on a black friday ever again after that... and now we get the dog food at the feed store!

I have only ever done Walmart first thing once. I usually go to Khol's first thing. Thing is do not go alone! The key is........... one person has to grab a couple of the big ticket electronics then go jump in line while your partner in crime gets all the other stuff and brings it back to person one who is still standing in the line. See how this works folks. You have to have game plan! Best Buy is useless unless you forego all other stores they only had out tickets at the door for the big ticket items and shhhh Walmart will match prices on other stores sale items. I can get all Christmas shopping done in one day and I save for it all year. I get the sale paper first thing Thanksgiving day then spend most of Thursday searching sale items and who opens their door first. We split into 2 teams and go to different stores for the first 4 or 6 depending on who has what at what price. We all meet back for lunch and then finish out the day shopping together like the crazy bunch we are. One year at Dillard's my Mom commented on how ugly some button downs were this lady was snatching up. Well the lady put them back and then Mom grabbed the shirts. My crazy sister spends most of the day making me laugh so hard I should probably wear a diaper. Anyway I love Black Friday and can't wait to do it again.
