Black labs and chickens don't mix

Well, last night a silkie roo that was in the pen showed up. I must have forgot he was in that pen with all the commotion going on. I did a body count today and looked at everone else and those 3 are my survivors. I have to go to work today but wish I could stay here and his dogs would come back. He claims he will keep then chained from now on but who knows how long that will last. He has said that before and in a couple months they are back again for a new meal. Everytime they kill something here they are always right at the point of laying or just started laying a few weeks ago!
That is what is making this so frustrating. I raise them up and start to get excited for new eggs to incubate and BAM those two show up and break through another pen.
I am going to chainlink all my pens now and I might put electric fence wire on the outside of each pen and see if that stops them incase I am not around next time they decide to stop in at the chicken buffet.

No, I have not called the police since the pound wont do anything, I doubt the police will, but I probably will call just out of curiosity.

Just shoot them, my second time saying: If anything on our farm kills livestock, it is culled. No options. Too bad the dogs will never feel the terror that the poor chicks did. Today I am tired with dogs who kill for sport. Your out of work neighbor has plenty of time to keep his dogs home, you should shoot him in the foot.

Sorry for your loss and that your neighbor isn't taking responsibility for his pets

If it were me, I would concentrate my efforts on really securing my chickens coops and yards... because even when these labs are "gone" other predators will take your chickens if they can.

The next time I or boyfriend is home and those dogs step one toenail on my property, they will die. I am not dealing with them anymore. I have a 40+ hour a week job and can not always be there to watch for them. BF is only home on the weekends since he is a truck driver. They will not get anymore chances.

I had never had anything try to bother the 2x4 wire pens before. I had them try to dig only to find poultry netting in the ground and then they gave up. Those two dogs are huge and that is the only reason they got through that wire. Like I said earlier, chainlink to strengthen everything and probably a strand of electric off of the chainlink fence to keep everything at bay! A 50 mile charger should do the trick!

MiniHorse - You go girl. We fight evey tooth and toenail to keep our animals safe and protect our land. I probably would try scent of scunk first with a target sprayed on their rear end if I could catch them, but otherwise it's your call. 22 front and back door.

You are right these dogs need to be eliminated! Not just because of your chickens, it is only a matter of time (in my opinion) before they graduate to larger prey. Some dogs north of me killed over 100 animals, sheep, poultry, alpacas, before they were caught & killed. have you thought of trapping them? They would be easy target then!

Thats a good idea, I dunno if your allowed or not but setting up a trap on your property would catch the dog red handed!
