Black lavender orpington?

Bought lavender orpington eggs from meyer all that hatched looks like lavender chicks but one is black with greyish down in spots and yellow wing tips and throat. What bred what to get this color or is this something that happens with this breed?

It’s probably a blue or black Orpington. Solid lavender is already “black lavender” since it’s two copies of the recessive lavender gene on a solid black bird.

I contacted meyer just trying to find out how or what happend to get this color. I didn't mind it hatching this way at all. They asks for pictures I sent them and they gave me a store credit because they said their line isn't suppose to breed black only lavenders. We call it our special baby, depending on if its a rooster or hen later may come in handy to keep the gene pool active. I have no idea how they breed what to what to get what just saw a chart where a black and lavender give 50 50 or 25 50. Either way it'll get the same love and care as the rest.

It could be a lavender split, which is visually black but carries one copy of the lavender gene. Or it could just be a black orp chick that got mixed in accidentally with the lavender chicks.

In that chart, the “black” was probably a lavender split.

Black x lavender = 100% splits (appears black, carries lavender)
Split x lavender = 50% splits, 50% lavenders
Split x split = 50% splits, 25% lavenders, 25% pure blacks

Its a black lavender split. I contacted meyer about it they refunded me for that egg and said they're line isn't suppose to produce those. Afterwards I got on their website and their description of the lavender orp eggs had changed to include lavender/ and split to black so some others may have had the surprise I got to. It is nice to have to have the black to breed back to already and not have to buy more chicks.

I have two black/lavender splits, the blacks are beautiful and should improve feather quality in the lavenders
