Black Mottled Ancona-Red Leghorn Cross

Pics
Here are a few pics of some chickens with more red on them....
You know both variations, the "high red" or "red-factor" Anconas you posted last, and the darker ones have that black and white mixed into their feathers which is very reminiscent of a Mille Fleur pattern. I wonder if you can achieve a solid red bird with only white mottling? So literally a red version of the normal Black Ancona.

Hen and rooster from the red mottled project. These are Ancona bantam x Italiener bantam x Sussex bantam x Wyandotte bantam.

That's a bit complicated for crossing purposes. Not as simple. But doable. If anyone knew what an Italiener bantam was or what color Wyandotte bantam they used.

This seems to be an issue with all the BT Red Leghorns out there.
I know @JacinLarkwell is also trying to work with them.
If it was me wanting to use them in any project I would focus on using males only.
They're cheaper so I'd buy a box of 25 and hope to have a few reach maturity that aren't train wrecks.
I'm not sure if my girl is a bt red or just red, honestly. But we'll see how she turns out. She's getting more feathered out, bit has fallen behind again. Might put that project on hold for a year and move her along if she doesn't keep progressing well

Of the three reds that I have left one is light red whilst the other two are deep red so far. The rumpless is the light red.

Anything close to this could kick start a whole other project which would'nt be a bad thing.
I think there's a little Moonshiner in all of us...
