Hmm. I found the "goal" pictures oddly unsatisfying, that is not what i imagined! I've never cared much for that black copper pattern though, personally.

When you said "red ancona" i imagined a magnificent dark standardbred Rhode Island Red sort of red with mottling.

That's what I would like to see!

This thread does remind me that I've been meaning to throw a couple of my houdan pullets in with my lavender Legbar, though.

In that case, I think I'd stick with red mottled leghorns, personally.

Well looks like this project has taken a slight setback. The 4 Red Leghorns I ordered from Murray McMurray are down to 2...One faded and died on the third day after arrival and one looks like it's going to be a rumpless hen...That's two rumpless I get from Murray. One Brown leghorn,from last year and one Red.

This seems to be an issue with all the BT Red Leghorns out there.
I know @JacinLarkwell is also trying to work with them.
If it was me wanting to use them in any project I would focus on using males only.
They're cheaper so I'd buy a box of 25 and hope to have a few reach maturity that aren't train wrecks.
