Black patch on my rooster's comb

My rooster developed a black patch on his red comb. What could it be? I have posted a picture.

No location for OP. he may live in S. Florida or S. CA for frostbite would be highly unlikely unless she stuck him in the freezer. Frostbite is not all that common, anyway, except really large combed breeds in really cold environments or humid coops on really cold nights.

Thank you for the answers. It could very well be frost bite. The weather dipped into the teens last night. His is a nine year old rooster. How can I treat it?

No cure for frost bite. The black portion will just fall off.

to prevet it more vents, or rub vasalene on their combs, warning messey!

My rooster has the same thing and I also was wondering what it could be. The dark spot is at the base of his very large comb. The tips are not frostbitten so I ruled that out.

If its not frost bite then can it be a bruise? just guessing here?
