Black Sex Link Personality

I thought this was a black sex link chick... then I thought she may be a swan due to her crazy long neck.... now Im thinking Ostridge...

Looks like chicks playing in the way chicks commonly play... Your speckled brownish looking one was doing the same thing... Not all black chickens are criminals...
I know as adult chickens go, I hear of barred rocks most often perpetrating chicken on chicken crime...

What about the Golden Sex-Link? Are they very friendly? Does anyone know? I have one & she's just a chick.

Its funny, upon observing their playtime yesterday, the one she messes with the most is the barred rock. And it looked like the BR may have started it on a few occasions. I was just hoping that I didn't get any mean ones, as I mixed a silkie into the group. So far they all seem to baby the silkie, who is less then half their size.

I wouldn't worry about it. Even ornery chickens seem to work it all out in the end... But what you are seeing is just playing... Like puppies do when they bite each other and growl and roll around together

I have two black sex links and one red sex link. The red is the smaller bird and is a terrific layer of huge eggs. I keep track of who lays when and the red lays about 6 a week. Last summer she went a stretch of about two months without missing a day. She is Queen of the pack and bosses the two black girls.

The blacks are really big birds, at least mine are. Both are fairly good layers but don't compare to the red. Both the blacks - who are just now about a year old - went through a mini-molt in January and just began laying again in March. The red has never molted and is only a few months older than the blacks. One of the blacks is an inconsistent layer. She gives me 4-5 a week but will occasionally give me one on the roost or a soft-shelled egg. The other black does about 5 a week.

Personality wise, none of them are mean. They just aren't soft and cuddly. They all respond to food and will pace the fence line if I've not been out to give them any treats. They know who I am and respond to me accordingly, usually clucking and talking because they want a snack.

If you're looking for eggs, these are good girls. One thing I wasn't aware of is that they usually have a shortened laying life. I've read that they lay great for about 2 years then fizzle out. I've only had my girls a year so we'll see.

I have 2 red sex links and they are the friendliest chicks in the bunch just about...they don't run away and don't mind being held...actually out of EE, buff orps, leghorns as the RSL the EE are the only ones that freak out. They are also the only ones I didn't get from the feed store. I think being in the store having people come by them everyday makes them friendlier...the feed store birds never ran away when I come to look at them or pick them up. The chicks I just hatched stampede across the brooder when someone walks up, but if you tap on it with your finger they all come running back so who knows...

Thanks for all the opinions...I ended up with 1 black sex link, 1 buff, 1 lavender orp, and a white lace wyandotte.
