I'm pretty sure that the only way that is NOT a pullet is if somehow a bird of another breed (that has the same appearance as chicks) got mixed in with the batch.

As another poster said, the roos are totally different color.

I have 2 10-day-old Black Sex Link girls (hopefully!) Mine are VERY black, black footed - with pink middle toes - and spend most of the time eating. Surprisingly, they aren't the biggest chicks. And by the way, could someone come up with a better name?

Looks like the white spot on the head of a future roo would be pretty noticeable

For some reason the hatchery I'm getting my black sex-links from calls them "Red Rocks". Obviously they're taking "Red" from one parent and "Rock" from the other, but it sounds kind of misleading... like it's just a variety of Plymouth Rock.

Barred Rocks are a color variety of Plymouth Rock (a pure breed) where the black sex-links are a cross between the Barred Rock and the Rhode Island Red.

I think all Barred Rocks have the white spot on their head as a chick, both hens and roos. It's only when they're crossed with a RHR that the female chicks don't have the white head spot.
