Black silkies

If I put her with a true black roo will she throw blues if she has the blue gene? I think she is a black, because I hatched one black and the rest were bbs but I couldn't tell which chick was which when they hatched.. Now they are 4 months old I can see how she stands out from the rest.

I just got 3 baby black silkies.. I am wondering what temp they must be kept at, special treats this breed likes, and people interested in adopting if my mom doesn't approve. I'm 35, however, she wants egg producers... I'm a vegetarian, and love my chickens for their theraputic nature... Within less than 3 hours, I'm guessing that silkies need a great deal of attention... Is this a correct observation?

Silkies have the same requirements as other chickens. 95 degrees the first week, 90 the second, etc. Chick feed and clean water. Protection from predators (including older birds who do not necessarily take to young chicks). I'm not sure exactly what the issues with your mother are (do you live with her? does she pay the bills?), but silkies typically lay just as often as any other breed--until they go broody. They do tend to lay much later than breeds known for their laying.

I know this is going to be a tough one, but any ideas on gender?
