Is this chick black?
Thanks.

They shouldn't. I mean, the CAN, but it can be the other way around as well. If you have blacks that are lower to the ground and whites that are "leggy", I'd assume that the blacks may have better type than the whites. I recommend getting an SOP and going to a few shows to get an idea of what good type on Silkies should look like :)

I have a beautiful black silkie female that I thought was a male from the tine she was hatched. I even had her sold very reasonably as a male. Thank heavens that person didn't come! She is bigger than my white females but very well balanced.

I have 5 black silkies and they are my favorite (my hubby likes the white!). When my daughter goes out to play with the chickens those are the only ones she really pays attention to! They are great birds.

I agree, Blacks and blues are my faves, the whites/partridge/buffs do nothing for me. Although here the whites sell better than blacks they are easy to get compared to other colours. Idk I keep 2 whites, 2 buffs, 2 partridge ( pets ) and many blacks and a couple of blues but the other colours are pets only. I agree with the above comment about the blacks being bigger/ less leggy as ive found this quite often, but getting a good balanced one is essential. Interestingly ive also found that blacks are hardier and less disease/sickness prone compared to the whites, but all are equally susceptiable to mites etc

Do you bath them before the show? if so what do you use?
I don't show mine but they get the occasional bath if they are overly grubby/ are going to auction and I use baby shampoo and then pantene conditioner, and they come out super sleek and shinny and stay so for about 3 weeks
