Black silkies

Okay, BBS silkie experts. How can you tell the difference of black and blue silkie chicks? I was looking through this thread and saw some pics of chicks posted that looked blue to me. Can someone give me a quick lesson or post pics of the differences? I just hatched some chicks and I THINK one may be black, but I'm not sure if it is just a dark blue.

Dad was black and mom was black this is what hatched out .

about the chicks, ppl have told me that the true black chicks are very dark as in black, esp the underfluff even as chicks. Maybe post a pic?

I would like to know the answer as well.

If this is the case, that would be a wonderful easy way to tell them apart!!

I just read somewhere that the blacks do have lighter bellies though. Ok, here is a pic of the one I am unsure of:

This is what my blues usually look like:

Just ran in to look at my chicks(lol) I have a bin of 12 blacks and yes they do have a lighter under belly but there head and rest of there body is black a night.. I do get a lighter shade on the body and head if they are split with lavender. But as to it being black

I am sure all lines are different and my blacks are black on black with no BBS..You could always let that lil cutie grow out to find out.I have a showgirl that hatched out I swore was blue and looks black so only mating will tell for me.

Thanks! So, it is probably a dark blue, which is fine.

I'm separating my blacks in the spring so I will know for sure that those chicks are black. Haha. I bought blacks just for that coop/pen, not from my own breeding.

is this what is called bleeding through and what would that mean she has in her genetic code? I don't plan on breeding her since she only has 4 toes on one foot but I am curious if her brothers and sisters could also have the same thing.
