Hi everyone,

Two or so days ago my boy Chickpea developed a black spot on his eye. I noticed his iris was more red than the other eye, which drew my attention to the black spot. He keeps closing his eye and is seems to be irritating him. I've tried to rinse it out but it won't budge and doesn't move around when he blinks. He's dewormed and otherwise extremely healthy.
He has a vet appointment for Monday, the vet isn't available sooner - maybe you guys have experience with this sort of thing in the meantime?

It looks like maybe he has a bit of dirt or sand or something in his eye? I'll let others chime in on how to possibly treat something like that, though, since I've not dealt with this situation before. Wishing you the best of luck in getting this fixed quickly!

What is all of the black material on his face? Will that come of or is it dried blood? I am not a vet, but it could be a peck wound or something that has become embedded in his eye, since it won’t rinse out. I would gently try a wet Qtip to try and move it, but a vet might be best. Some Terramycin eye ointment might be good to use twice a day until you see the vet.

Yeah I think it's probably some dirt, I just can't work out why it won't budge :(. At least it hasn't caused an infection..

The black stuff is all dust and sand from his bath. He eats a lot of fresh food so he gets a bit sticky and needs to be wiped sometimes :).
I'll look into Terramycin, thank you! I tried using a wet Qtip to no avail

Also, some chickens have black spots in their eyes that are part of the eye coloration. I have a few that are like that, and I didn't notice until something else got me to look closely at their face. Is it possible that could be the case here? Just wondering since you said it won't budge. The vet should be able to tell if this is the case.

He might have scratched his eye somehow or gotten a little bit of dust in his eye while he was dustbathing, which could explain the irritation.
