Just noticed these black spots on my roosters comb they were not here last week. He is not being pecked that I’m aware of he is the only rooster and the hens I have are very docile. I just posted about him concerned that he has a wet eye on the other side... this isn’t freeze comb because this wasn’t here last week. Any ideas?

Maybe mites? Do gnats ever get on your chickens? My rooster has the same thing and I am not sure why either but he has lived a happy and otherwise healthy life so far.
Yes my rooster is healthy and happy. I’m wondering now if this is mites. He had lice when I got him and treated him with ivermectin. But maybe 🤔 I did check today I didn’t see any but will recheck him tomorrow. Also reading about stick fleas... man these things make my head spin

I think you may be on to something with the stick fleas. I am thinking both our roosters have a mild case. If you find out for sure what it is, please share with me!

P.S. You have a beautiful rooster!

They could be just random little scabs from brushing up against something. The comb is a very blood rich tissue, so even a tiny poke can make it bleed. You might not see the blood until it dries, making a little black scab.

I see these on my chickens' combs and wattles at random times. They disappear after a few days.
