Black spots on rooster combs

Did you ever determine what this problem was? My rooster has this and I originally thought it was frostbite, but have recently thought it may be bugs and I do not know what to think…

I've seen black spots that do not stand proud of the comb skin, are not bloody or punctures,, are not parasites, seem to be different pigmentation, and they come and go over days or weeks. They seem to be bought on by stressful situations like another rooster trying to take over hens (but without contact) or being chased (but not touched) by a dog.

Has anyone ever had this problem with a hen? I've only seen it with roosters.

From the research I've done for mine it looks like mites or foul pox but I'm thinking fungal for mine, but it's hard to know...also the link posted by the other commenter didn't work for me either 🙃
