Black Star Roo

I like red and black stars.Having a red rooster and barred rocks well get you black stars. But the off spring is a crap shoot.I would guess that these mutts would still be a good layer and good dual purpose bird.Figure many people love barred rocks, many think new hampshires or RIR are great. So put the two together and i think the offspring should be good.yet maybe odd looking birds.
I feel pure breed birds may have problems down the road.Im looking to get about to dozen birds soon and it well be a nice mix.I look forward to seeing how each does and what theyre offspring well look like. Im going to use a red New Hampshire for my main breeding rooster. Some barred rock hens Some Delaware hens.
Im looking into red rangers for meat birds,i wonder what would happen if i bred the NH rooster with them?

I had a nice sultan but sadly a hawk got her she was my favorite.

some time down the road I might get another sultan and mix her with a barred rock rooster.

Was the sultan a good layer? I was reading how a new hampshire red was a much developed RIR.If you breed one of those red birds to a barred rock you get black stars.Ive read knothing but good things about BS.But you need to have the Red cock and a barred rock to make it happen. The black stars well just kick out non black stars(mutts) It may end up being eiither a good egg layer or taste good!

Sorry it was so long to get back to you but I have one black star, one new Hampshire rooster, a polish top hat, five leghorns, and a tone of red stars. I am thinking about doing the chick chain for 4-h. but don't know much about it do you?

I ended up getting leghorns from a feed store. Two white ones and three browns. They seem very lively and i look forward to seeing theyre egg laying ability.
Im not into showing birds. My three browns do look preety though. And the white ones help brighten up the greenhouse.

I recently added 13 barred rock pullets to my flock to produce BSL...My question about the rooster is in his coloration...Was he supposed to have the bared rock coloration? Is he the result of the Second generation mix of BSL!
