Black Tailed Buff Marans??

marans roo chicks are slowwww getting in their tail feathers in. got some now that are fully feathered minus a tail

Which breeder did you buy them from?

They are supposed to be Bev Davis. I contacted Bev in August and she said she was not selling any hatching eggs at this time but gave me the name of a lady near Austin that was hatching her eggs. I contacted her and she said she was moving and a friend of hers was hatching the eggs for her and the stock I was getting was pure Bev Davis. So far I'm not very impressed. I really don't want to name names (at least not yet, until I talk to them about it first.) this is my first bunch of FBCM from day old chicks and I wanted to grow them out some to see how they looked.
We went to get FBCM and this one was the only one in the hatch to look like that. She called it a Black Tailed Buff and gave it to us for free. They are both super nice reputable people and I know things happen...still a little disappointed

mmm I know marans can throw a an odd ball every now and than but mm

try sending the pictures to Bev herself and see if she could help you id them

the second looks like a brichen roo and the last might be a black or black copper roo

Those look like marans cross chicks. Silver birchen marans mix???

At any rate, if the odd colored chick is from the same parent stock as the ones that look like FBCM, then there are some odd genetics in that particular flock. Or, maybe a rooster got into the wrong pen. It can happen.

I have some 5 week old BCM roos (spike and twizzler). they look like the pics of your last one there but mine have
feathered leg, and their legs are darker.

I also have some Black Tail Buff Marans eggs in the incubator right now from a local breeder, so I can send you a pic
of what they look like when they come out. They went into lockdown today

Thanks, I'd like to see those. As soon as I get some incubator space after New Years, I'm going to get some FBCM eggs from a breeder in East Texas. The Marans I got rid of to make room for these alleged Bev Davis chicks were much better than any of those. Good luck with your hatch.

here is my weird black copper bird? looks a bit like your weird one too.. the rest are a mix of Wheaten and black tailed buff but they got mixed up so i can't tell which is which yet ! oh yeah, the white one isn't a marans LOL she is an EE/leghorn cross...
