Attempting to hatch Smarty Pants's egg with my body heat. I don't have my incubator set up yet, nor have a broody hen. It's okay though, been wanting to try this hatching experiment anyway.

Hatch date is the 25th, if things go well.

Gonna attempt encouraging a broody to do the job.

Starting to collect for hatching. Starting with Smarty Pants, since I know she's laying. I suspect her daughter is too, but haven't yet confirmed.

Once I get a broody, I'll pop the eggs under her.
She lays jumbos.

It's a darker pink, with speckles. Some EEs will lay pink, brown, or white.

Got egg #2, from Smarty Pants today. Just 4 more to go. Still waiting for a hen to go broody though.

Regarding a lot of the conversation going early on in this thread, I believe it is actually possible for a gene or part of gene to be translocated to a different chromosome if an error in DNA replication takes place. This is very rare and often lethal so it is not likely. However if I am recalling my genetics class correctly it is indeed possible. I'll consult my notes soon and let you know more about it.
