All of a sudden, Max looks at the woods... There is a fire! He was so scared but he looked and his scales were fire-proof! He travels all the way through when... plop. All of the smoke had gotten to him. But when he wakes up, he is in a metal cage. But in another cage, Shimmer is beside him! His heart was filled with excitement and joy! And then his stomach dropped. How where they supposed to get out?
 
Shimmer awoke about an hour later to human commotion. Sleepily yawning, she turned and......Wait, is that Max? Oh no, they captured him too! She thought. ".....Max? Is that you?"

Axel smiled sadly at Kapok. "I hope she will be....." he said halfheartedly. Though he felt the weight of the thought that Shimmer might be gone for good crushing him, he tried to hold on to a tiny sliver of hope that she was still alive. "I......I better go to sleep, it's getting late." He bade Kapok goodbye, clumsily flew down to the ground, walked inside the Middle Rankers' section of the cave, and dozed off after a few minutes.

Kapok watched the fledgling leave with sad eyes. He sighed and followed Axel into the cave.
 
Scarlet stood up from a perch on a rock. "It's getting dark." She observed loudly. "Fulgur, Angel and anyone else who wants to be helpful can keep watch. Everyone else may eat and get ready for the night." She ordered.

"...Yes, Alpha," Angel said timidly, coming out of the bushes. She had taken a rabbit from the food pile earlier, and had been eating it when Scarlet called her. She picked up the remains of the rabbit wither her tail, looked at it for a moment, and then threw it completely across the clearing and into the woods, figuring a scavenging animal might eat the rest of it.. She nodded respect to Scarlet and began her patrol silently.



Before Shimmer heard Max respond, the humans came over to her cage, entered it, and started to corner her again! She attempted to dodge the humans and shove past them, and instead she felt the all-familiar sharp pain in her leg as she was shot with a tranquilizer dart. "Max.....find a way to....escape.....please..." Shimmer said right before she fell unconscious. The humans picked up her limp body and carried it out of her cage and into a strange, separate room with blinding lights, thick steel walls, and more people, who were wearing a sort of light blue fabric. She was set down on a table in the middle of the room with a large light above her, and one of the people shut the door to the room. "So the boss made a deal, I assume?" One of the humans asked another. "Yes, the doctors will take care of her from here," The second human replied. The two people walked out of the room, closing the door behind them.
