Hi all,

I noticed a scab on the beak of one of my girls and wanted to photograph it to get your opinion. In the process of trying to get her into position for a photograph she brushed her beak on the wire of the coop and has knocked the scab off. Looks pretty nasty… Does anybody have an opinion on treatment if any?

Bird owners may want to have a powdered clotting agent and a styptic pencil on hand in case a bird has a bleeding beak or a bleeding toenail at home. Significant bleeding can be prevented by applying pressure to the bleeding spot.

Do you have an astiseptic or cream to use on here beak wound? Chlorhexidene is good. She might be a victim of pecking because of the red wound, so watch for that, and separate her if it happens. Those wounds are easy to get on fencing or a sharp feeder or waterer.
