Bleeding wing/angel wing in duck

If it's still bleeding grab either corn starch or more preferably styptic powder, dab a little onto a cotton swab and apply firm pressure to the follicle/s that are involved to clot up the blood, if it continues to bleed, or reinjuring it may need to be pulled, but lets first try the easiest option.

It has stopped bleeding luckily and it stopped bleeding rather quickly too so I’m happy about that but I do have corn starch on hand in case it does start again! I’m really worried about overnight and him picking it while I’m asleep and not aware. This sounds crazy but I might just have to set alarms through the night to go check and keep an eye on him.

I’m hoping it doesn’t come down to me pulling it out because I’m afraid I’d hurt him more somehow

What are you going to do about the angel wing? If you can wrap it, I think you should have a vet look at it tomorrow,
My plan is to call the vet tomorrow morning even if he is doing better and just ask if he can be seen (they saw him when he was a little baby) and have her check out the broken blood feather and also ask if she can wrap him herself since she probably has much better technique than I! Haha. Since I failed miserably 7 times and Henry should just be named Houdini instead!

As long as the blood feather stops relatively soon it'll be fine. Worst case you have to pull it.

I've had my pekin and my runner have them about half a dozen times in the last 5 months and they've always been fine. Never found a cause aside from them being clumsy and my other ducks are perfectly fine.

You can try to stop it up with corn starch to tide over if you want to have a vet look at it but generally it should stop within an hour or two.

I should reitterate - pulling a feather, especially a pin feather, is risky business. Let nature do its thing if you can. I've never had to do this and frankly would end up at the vet for it if I did.

Did he get to see the vet?
Yes, we’re there now! So it WAS a giant blood feather. Vet is going to wrap him herself to help with the angel wing, thankfully! She says she doesn’t want to pluck the blood feather right now because of how large it is, and given the fact it stopped bleeding relatively quick. Obviously if the feather gets injured again, plucking will have to occur. She’s prescribing pain meds to for him because she thinks he’s probably in a good amount of pain given how big the feather was. I feel really bad but I’m really glad I did bring him in, it was well worth a trip!
