Blind Chick

I made Owlet some 'chick oatmeal'. I put chick crumble, two brown sugar cubes, and a scoop of yogurt in a cup and dumped boiling water in.
I'm gonna give it to Owlet and see how it goes.
The chick oatmeal looks like watery oatmeal mixed with barf and cottage cheese!

Yep. What breed is Thalia?

Production Red. :)

Sounds yummy! And gross at the same time. :p

She loved it!! It's much easier to feed as well.

Yay! Awesome!!! :)

I read that sugar water can cause problems if given for to long, but a few days won't hurt. I would use electrolytes, probiotics, and ACV in the water after that, and I strongly recommend the straight nutri drench and coconut oil. That really perked Thalia up. ;)

What problems have you read about, I routinely give it for the first week to all my chicks and poults for years, so curious as to what the problem would be?

I read that it can cause problems with runny stool, and often leading to pasty butt, because sugar draws water into the intestines. I've done a lot of reading on it, and that's what a lot of people say. A few days won't hurt though, it helps perk up weak chicks. :)

Good to know, thank you.

Thank you so much everyone. I fed Owlet again and she didn't want as much so I got what I could into her.
She's a little bit better but I wish she'd not sleep all of the time!
Also, I don't think she's blind anymore. It sure seemed that way yesterday but she perked up after I started nursing her and now I think she can see.

I'm a diabetic, when blood sugars get low it affects the sight, I can see but yet I can't, if she's perking up with feeding is possible she was never blind but that she couldn't see due to low blood sugars, it also makes you confused. Time will tell if she improves or not. Keep at it.
