BLizzard in Texas! ~* Finally over! *~ UPDATE pg.4

If you only have the one duckling it would be safer in the house with you. The chicks will keep each other warm, but the ducky needs help!! Put him in your bathtub or something like that for the duration of the storm.

I feel for you! My last winter in NY I shoveled more snow then I could believe, and I was raised in Alaska. One of my favorite things about Central Texas is February and March, when it is lovely and every relative I have is still hip deep in snow.

We had over an inch of hail on the ground two days ago, does that count?

Wow! 23 degrees and still snowing in Amarillo.

Weather radar shows a MAJOR storm up in Wichita! Brrrrr...

And I thought we had it cold here!

My brother lives in Amarillo and when I talked to him today he said it was blizzard conditions there. We are 250 miles west in Vernon. We had about 1 inch today. Our flock is 3 weeks old and removed the brooders last week but kept the heat lamps. It was 35 at 3 pm today and the coops were at 60 with propane heaters as a contngency to Texas weather fluctuations.
Ya'll are getting slammed up there. Snow insulates so if you have protection from the wind it may help.

The wind here is howling. I have a tree in the front yard that bolted and cabled together, and on days like this I wonder if it is going to hold.

UPDATE!

When I woke up the first thing I did was to check if the blizzard was gone and guess what it was gone!!!!

then I went to check out how my little chicks, hens, and ducklin were and they were fine! but my head roo had red eyes! could that be a problem he can see, he seems ok but the only different in him is that he has red eyes! I opened the little dog house so that the chickens could get out and explore or just decide to stay inside there, could the snow affect them if the step on it? I hope not. Ok I took pictures of the snow, it was higher than my waist! it almost covered my sister's car and it reached the windows in the house! I will post pics as soon as I get them uploaded =] now im just waiting for my eggs to arrive!

So everybody made it! all my chicks are fine and my hens as well, while I was looking if there were no dead chicks I saw a brown egg from my BR!!!! wow I didn't know she was that hardy! I cracked it open and it wasn't frozen so maybe they were fine in the little house =]

Your blasted storm is heading up here next!!! We're supposed to get deteriorating conditions tonight through tomorrow. Sleet, freezing rain and snow.

ACK!!!!

BTW the snow won't hurt the chickens to step on, if they're anything like mine though, they won't like it!
