So I have had my baby chick silkies (2 silkies I bout from a breeder) for about three weeks, they are still small, they one has always been smaller than the other and are the only two in the brooder, yesterday I noticed a little blood in one of the chicks poo, and today too, they are acting very normal happy eating drinking the brooder is santitized every third day and cleaned daily with fresh bedding, the feeder and water are also cleaned as listed above. The poo is solid and just has blood around it. Looks totally normal... since they are still so little I don't want to treat for cocci because my gut is telling me that is not it, but I feel like I need to do something... any thoughts would be appreciated!!! PLEASE HELP

So hard to tell what it is you saw without seeing it.

It is a little early for intestinal shed in 3 week old chicks, but if it was pink and stringy, that is normal intestinal shed.

Otherwise, if it was blood, that is not good. Any blood in the stool suggests coccidiosis.

If you are cleaning and sanitizing as regularly as you say, and if they are on medicated feed, you may be keeping just ahead of it....but coccidiosis can mushroom very quickly leaving chicks dead overnight.

Follow you gut instincts if you do not feel it is coccidiosis. It might be smart to be sure ACV (with mother ) is in the water (non-metal container) and that they are getting pro-biotics in Chick saver or yogurt. That should help improve gut health. They should be on medicated chick start too.

And keep a very, very close eye on things. As stated, coccidiosis can blossom into severe infection, bringing death, very quickly in small chicks.

Thank you, I may treat for cocci if I still see blood tomorrow, I haven't seen anymore tonight... Both chicks are happy eating and drinking, I will try to get a pic and post it if it happens again... I'll keep you posted! Again THANK YOU
