It was on the side walk, were the chickens out there ?

I did look at each of those and didn't see anything. I'll look again today.
Even a very tiny nick on the comb or wattles can amount to what looks like a lot of blood, especially if they shake their head and it goes flying. I once opened the coop to what looked like a massacre had happened, it was a cut on my roosters comb, but took me awhile to find it and it wasn't all that big. If you see a dark spot then that could be a wound that has started to heal.

Thanks for sharing that!LOL I went out a few weeks back, one hen has a bloody breast, my white birds were splattered with blood - I thought someone was dying. I found a very small nick on my hen's wattle, she'd shake her head and the drops would flyAs you can see - my avatar - she is a live and well
