Blood in Coop, Cannot Locate Source

I did look at each of those and didn't see anything. I'll look again today.

Even a very tiny nick on the comb or wattles can amount to what looks like a lot of blood, especially if they shake their head and it goes flying. I once opened the coop to what looked like a massacre had happened, it was a cut on my roosters comb, but took me awhile to find it and it wasn't all that big. If you see a dark spot then that could be a wound that has started to heal.

From time to time I have found blood splatters on the poop trays under the roosts which made me think one of them had a hurt a foot but none of them had obvious injuries. The strange thing is that 3-5 days would go by and no blood and then it would appear again.

I have no idea which hen was having an issue because I couldn't find any injuries and everyone was acting normal. I never thought to check their combs but that makes sense that someone gets a hard peck at their comb, shakes their head and the blood splatters.

Thank you. I will go inspect again. I actually hope I find something like this so I will know what it was!

LOL I went out a few weeks back, one hen has a bloody breast, my white birds were splattered with blood - I thought someone was dying. I found a very small nick on my hen's wattle, she'd shake her head and the drops would fly:th As you can see - my avatar - she is a live and well:)

Thanks for sharing that!
