My Americana just started laying. Today was her second egg (and 3rd day) and next to it was a very small, soft shelled egg that was broken. I noticed yolk but also bright red coming out of it. It looks like blood. There is no rooster in the mix, so I'm wondering if anyone knows what this is and why it happened. Thanks.
yeah except this was like a clump of blood not just a spot and I went outside and found my chicks eating something it was the americaunas egg. A soft shell that cracked on our porch cause I guess she didn't go to the nesting box and they were all eating it.
this one did not have the blood clump though. Happy Veterans Day!
