Blood in shell.

sorry I misunderstood yes the fertile eggs will have blood on the inside a spot butt Maybe she was having a hard time getting the egg out. I have seven chickens that were egg bound and there was blood after they finally passed the egg. I don't know but when I used to raise Cockatiels and parakeets we always put a little bit of safflower seed oil or a natural oil in the food just a little bit like a couple drops into a quart.if your feeding a lot of chickens it won't hurt to put a little bit and just mix it so it has a very very light coating. we used to do this so they would not get egg bound but that's all I can say I hope this helps you a little bit
Hmmm. I guess she could have been egg bound and taken care of it herself, she has laid and egg about 1 1/2 the size of that egg last week with no problems(I actually watched her lay that one) but I did not see her lay the one today, so maybe she was egg bound.

I agree. She probably had trouble getting the egg out. I wouldn't be worried.

Blood in the egg is a sign of stress or stain. Not a rooster. Think of eggs as meat product and just like the flesh of a cow, steak, have vessels so do eggs. If the birds get spooked or unsettled or there "feathers ruffled" so to speak blood vessels will rupture and this is what you see in the yolk. Also this is more visible in young hens but can happen at any age.

Ok! Thanks for the help! I know White Leghorns can have a tendency to lay bigger eggs than their body can handle, I have just never seen anything like this before, this is my first year raising chickens.
