Hi folks! I have a sebright bantam hen that I have had for 3 1/2 months. She is about 5-6 months old. This morning I witnessed her drop a bloody poo. I did look at the poo chart, but I'm not 100% on what I think it could be. I looked up coccidia in my chicken encyclopedia and, it listed pale skin as a symptom. She doesn't have that. She appears perfectly healthy and normal. Her only indications being the blood in her stool and she hasn't laid for a couple weeks. BUT, the laying thing may not even be a red flag. Sebright bantams (according to everything I've read on them are not great layers to begin with.) Not to mention she has already had a bout of ceased laying for no discernible reason anyway. In the first 2 weeks we had her she laid 4 eggs. Then, she stopped laying completely for a month and a half. Then she went on a laying spree, laying 3-4 eggs a week for a month. Then she stopped. So I don't know if it's just that she's a "tempermental" layer and she is more affected by the temperature change than my other birds (I live in NH, which in September sees chilly mornings and evenings and hot days), or if this bout of laying cease is due to illness...as is the blood in stool. I'm really quite confused as to whether I think it's just normal intestinal tissue shed, or coccidia. Any thoughts?
