Bloody feathers/sticky around vent -- coccidiosis or something else?

Hi all,

One of my little ISA browns has these bloody/sticky feathers around her vent. The vent itself looks fine -- I don't see any prolapse or anything -- but you can see there is dark blood stuck around the vent and on the feathers, with some of the feathers hanging down and bloody. My first thought was coccidiosis so I did put 3tsp Corid into their water (which I think is approx 2 gal). She's acting completely normally thus far today, and I don't see any other birds with bloody vents/couldn't find any bloody poop around the pen or coop.

Could this be something other than coccidiosis -- does it look like some kind of pecking injury or something? Any advice?

Thanks so much. She is so sweet and I am really hoping she's going to be OK!

You may want to clean up her vent and make sure it's not damaged. Feel inside the vent for an egg.
Looks more like damage to me.
Likely not Coccidiosis but if you are wanting to treat for Coccidiosis and are using Powdered Corid, then you are giving the correct dose at 3tsp in a 2 Gallon water station.

If I were to feel in her vent for an egg/damage, what do I do then? Would I be feeling for a broken egg, a full egg, etc?

I would feel for possible broken egg. You only need to feel about 1-2" in.

She may have prolapsed and gotten picked, but it would be good to figure out the source of the blood if possible.
Is she able to poop?

I just brought her in and felt inside up to about an inch -- it felt fine to me and I couldn't feel any broken egg pieces or anything. I felt a couple of times. I'm sure I could have gone deeper in but she wasn't really enjoying it and I've never done it before (but I have a relative who has, who's coming home later tonight -- I'll have her "double check my work").

After I did it, she pooped -- not sure if that's something that happens or if it was a coincidence -- and it looked totally normal, so I'm not sure what any of that means. I'll definitely keep up the cocci treatment just in case, though.

Any thoughts?
