Bloody mucus poop baby chick

Also...they are on a medicated starter feed and I still put probiotics in their water.
They can still get it while using medicated feed. Most medicated feed contains trace amounts of amprolium, which is the main ingredient in Corid. It is simply meant to help the chicks by weakening the cocci, to teach their bodies to fight it naturally. It's not enough to kill the parasite.

I hate to treat them if it’s not necessary. But if you are sure...you would absolutely know more than I would about it!
There's a chance that it's not coccidiosis, but I wouldn't risk it. It's much safer to treat with Corid. Sorry for all the replies. I was replying to specific questions instead of all at once.

Yes... I just treated them. I am in Tennessee so we are neighbors Aapomp831! And Thank God you were up as early as I was! Lol. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate your information! And Thank u so much everyone!

Great. I’ll check out the article. I was also thinking this may be a good time to introduce them to some grass from outside or To put a sandbox in the Brooder - Since they’re already being protected with the corid. And maybe some chic grit?Or do you think they are still too young?

You are welcome! I have too many chickens to be able to sleep in 🤣

They should be fine. Momma hen would have them exploring by 1.5 weeks, and they're being treated already, so I don't see the harm. I like to take a chunk of sod, dirt and all and plop it down in the brooder. It's entertaining to watch them explore. Peck the chick grit with your finger to make sure they understand it's there. Try to use sod from the area they will live in when they're older. They way they're used to that strain of coccidiosis.

That’s a great idea. Thank u! They will have a large permanent coop and pen, but I also plan on moving them around my acreage daily with a portable outside pen - so that they are safely free ranged.

Dosage for Powdered Corid is 1 1/2tsp per gallon of water given for 5-7 days.
If you are mixing a quart at a time that would be 0.375 or 3/8 teaspoon per quart of water.
I like to change water for chicks several times a day, so just mix up a whole gallon. Make fresh daily.

I do agree, I would treat for Coccidiosis. If I saw poop in the brooder like that.
Coccidia is a protozoa that is found in poop and in soil. It's not uncommon for brooder raised chicks to have an overload. A warm brooder, moist environment, poop...it can happen.

Medicated feed in the US contains a very small amount of Amprolium, so it's safe to give the mixed Corid water along with the medicated feed.
Corid (Amprolium) is a Coccidiostat that acts as a Thiamine Antagonist. It's not antibiotic nor does it contains strains of viruses or coccidia. Basically blocks the uptake of B1 and helps reduce the number of oocysts so the birds can build natural resistance.

I would not add any probiotics or vitamins when treating with Corid, save those for after treatment.
