Everyone is behaving fine, lively and eating / drinking - but still this worries me a lot. Chicks are indoors / sequestered and have had a little contact with bedding from my 2 month olds but nobody so far has been ill. should I give them medicated feed? Any other ideas? Will it run its course?

It looks like coccidiosis. One of mine dropped dead on July 4th before any of them had bloddy poop. They all seemed fine. Time is of the essense. Treat immediately before they stoo drinking and need to be tubed. Find a farm supply that has a packet of 20% Corid powder for under $20. Mix 1-1/2 teaspoons into 1 gallon of water and it must be their only water. They drink that for 5 to 7 days, then cut down to 1/3 teaspoons per gallon for at least a week. Casportpony can give you better info than I can.

I agree, that is blood. It is better to go ahead and treat them all since symptoms (puffing up, lethargy, poor appetite, diarrhea) may happen 2-3 days after infection has started. Corid is found in the cattle or hog section of feed stores, in liquid or powder. The liquid dosage is 2 tsp per gallon. Here is some reading about the disease:
