Bloody poop. Should I be worried?

When actual blood shows up in the chicken poop, it indicates bleeding is occurring. That's a given. If blood continues to be present in the stools, you should also be seeing chickens acting sick - fluffed up, tails down, off their feed, nodding off, generally lethargic.

Blood in poop along with chickens acting sick is something to be very concerned about, especially if it's coccidiosis. Bloody stools often indicates necrotic enteritis, a potentially fatal complication of coccidiosis where the coccidia are busy irritating the intestines to the point that bacteria join the party. This can cause irreversible damage to the intestines, and many chickens can't recover even with antibiotics.

There are two play-it-safe moves you can make if you suspect coccidiosis and want to be sure you do something to protect your chickens. One is to collect a random poop sample and have a vet run a fecal float test for parasites. The other is to simply treat with Corid even without knowing for certain coccidia are the problem. But collect the poop sample before starting the Corid or you could get a false negative test result.

There run stays pretty dry. I do however live in Portland, OR so you know rain happens. The bloody poop isn't constant. I've seen it once or twice in the past month. The material when poked is very tissue like.
Are you getting all the rain we're getting in SW Washington? I've never seen the chicken run so soggy. Going to have DH bring some straw home to spread around.

Have these chickens been scratching around outdoors in mucky conditions? If not, it's not very likely, although not impossible, that this red is blood from coccidiosis. The medicated starter is supposed to help establish resistance t usa today protonmail o coccidia, but it won't prevent it.
