Blowing Eggs - Craft Questions

Blowing eggs, I'm too lazy... I just let them sit for 4-5 years and they dry out!

They are really cool when dried though, they roll around on the heavy end and are like wobbly things.

We used the blown out eggs - after we washed them to make jello eggs for easter.
Pretty cool to watch kids crack open an egg to find a gelitin egg!

Cool link with great visual directions. Where can I find a syringe with a needle like that? I thought the Girl Scouts would have fun doing this project at a meeting.

I buy the syringes at the drug store. Very cheap. I use a high speed dremel to drill the hole and only use a hole in 1 end of the egg.
Also to get rid of the membrane just pour clorox into the egg and let it sit for about 30 minutes. It dissolves the membrane
Never use vinegar. It will dissolve the egg completely.

Jacie,
Thanks for sharing. I may e-mail you before I tackle the project with the girls.

Wegotchickens, let us know how it turns out. I haven't tried it yet. Thanks for starting this thread!

So long as you have a needle and syringe, why can't you just suck the egg up into the syringe, instead of risking cracking the shell by pushing air in to displace the contents? Is it difficult to do because the egg is thick? Just wondered if anyone had tried that.

Anyone is welcome to email me with questions. I've been decorating eggs for about 20 years so there isn't much I haven't run into.

Have fun!

Oh and I don't make a living doing this! (I wish!)

It's just a hobbie and my sales mainly just pay for my supplies. It's not a cheap hobby.

I've always wanted to do the decorating where you wrap colorful tissue-like paper on the eggs. I can't remember what it's called but it looks so pretty!!
