BLR Wyandottes

I'll have eggs available at the end of the week, Picco.

I found out that the birds from Murray McMurray aren't really quality birds, thankfully after I had already cancelled my order with them. (I was really disappointed I had to until I got that factoid!)

I have an auction on eBay due to end on Thursday, but as soon as I have the allotment filled, I can start saving for you. You can email me privately for details.

Thanks everyone for your help. I just ordered 20 BLRW chicks from www.reddirtchickenranch.com. They look like they have really nice birds so I hope it works out. I'm expecting the chicks in mid June. I can't wait

If you want to breed them succesfully, trim the fluff from around the hens vents. My experience shows the roosters to be fertile , its just that too much is lost in the feathers, if you know what I mean.

I recently learned that that rosecombs in general have a lower fertility rate than other types of combs. This has plagued all colors of Wyandottes, and it's good to keep any single combs that may appear in your flock, especially males, and breed them back into the population. I'm not sure why, but the hens will throw less single combs when mated to a single combed rooster than single combed hens to a rosecomb roo. Fortunately, I've discovered that my rosecombs are throwing the occasional single comb.

Whoops! I coulda swore I repled to this! hehe

We are purchasing a quad of BLRW from www.creativelees.com and should have them here in about two weeks. The roo is from Laurie/Mother Mastiff. We are VERY excited about adding these adults to our flock. We currently have babies from Stacy/creativelees/Hazelton Farm as well and they are looking beautiful!

We will be offering eggs and chicks once they get settled in and begin laying, but with chickens, you never know when that may be!

We do currently have two BLRW cocks for sale that are 3 months old, one "black" and one "blue". The blue especially is GORGEOUS! We may also be selling a splash pullet, but I need to talk to my son about this more first since he's getting the quad, we won't have a lot of room for more than that.

Contact me if interested.

We'll probably putting the cocks on eggbid tonight, if no interest. Possibly the pullet as well if he is agreeable (as they are his birds and I will not do that without getting his consent.)

That's great to know! Do you have a link or somewhere that I could look at on that? I have two beautiful single combed cocks here (one "black" and one "blue" and would love to sell them and make that note! hehe I was going to put them on freecycle!

Asher, you can go to the Yahoo group for "blue laced red wyandottes" and there has been a discussion about them regarding this issue.

I know I wish I had that piece of information back before I gave away my beautiful dark blue roo.

He was just as pretty as my dark blue rosecomb, and I gave him away because I thought he was useless.
