Hello new to BYC and kinda finding way to using it....I am finding a growing love /obsession with this breed and fancy the blue and lavender variety. I shave found some wonderful people to help me learn more about the breed. I currently have a small backyard flock of Silkies and a BCM, will also be adding some orpingtons this week too:))) I am in CT and have found chicks in area but still ISO young hens to match my flock. Any one whom has or can give reference to me for a breeder please tell me. Looking for high quality, or show because I appreciate bloodlines. Thanks all!!!!

Was given this bird 3 months ago and told she was 6 months old. Still hasn't laid egg 1. I'm not familiar with this breed so I'm not sure if it's normal to pay so late.

Do you have any pictures of her from when you got her? She looks just like mine, size and all and they are just over 3 months now. Her tail doesn't look like an adult. Her neck however does seem to be thick. I would say 4-5 months at the most.

Not sure how far you want to go but I got Blue Ameraucanas from breeder in Smithfield RI. Ricochet Ridge. He's listed on ABC site (Ameraucana Breeder's Club). There may be CT breeders listed on that site also. Hope this helps.

Hi All!

I'm planning on starting my backyard poultry soon. My friends and I have been fascinated by blue eggs which we didn't know even existed.

Where can I get Blue Ameraucanas in Jacksonville, FL?

You can try the Ameraucana Breeders Association online. They have a reputable breeders list. Don't let anyone trick you into Easter Eggers. They're nice birds but not pure, so it's best to go from the list.

Hi folk!!!!! Total chicken Noob here! I have 6 Blue Ameraucana hens that are 4-1/2 month old. 3 of them are actually Blue, one is a Splash and 2 are black! Their names are
Mathilda, Kunigunde, Brunhilda, Greta, Ursula and Esmerelda!!! :D

Kunigunde is the boss and is in my avatar photo. Greta is the splash and is frightened to death of all things. She's been twisted since I got her, *bless*. I don't think she did well on her long journey across the US to me as she came out of the box beyond frazzled and hasn't been right since. I have some photos below of them. They haven't started to lay yet. And my hubby has had to block off their nest boxes with a huge board to try to encourage them to roost on their perch. They love doing a huge puppy pile into 1 next box even though they have 6  Now they just crash on the floor of their coop. They do love to perch though!!! Just not at night ! They perch all day long both in the coop and on this huge limb in their run we sawed down for them. I hope they suss out to perch at night though

These are my first chickens and I love this breed. They are gorgeous albeit flighty. Slowly they are taming up to me with their beloved mealworms :). I got them at 7 weeks so it's taking a it of time but they are improving
