Blue Ameraucana thread!

Pics
Hello everyone. Just found this discussion :). I had 3 a couple years ago but sadly a raccoon had a nice late night snack. So I decided to try my luck again. I have 24 in the incubator right now heading into day 12. Just did some candle lighting and 5 were clear :(. There's still hope though haha. I will post pictures when they hatch :)

Would anyone care to give their opinions on the sex of my two blues? These are my first chickens (2 Blue Ameraucanas + 4 Transylvanian Naked Necks). Both of the blues are the same age, 7 weeks, but they've had completely different personalities from the start. The lighter one (Charlotte) is fearless and somewhat larger than the darker one (Margo), which makes me wonder if "she" is actually a "he." Both are sweet, though. Ignore my naked-necks - They are already easy to tell between the pellets and roos.

I really want them both to be hens (I'll have to return any roos to the farm they came from, because I'm not allowed roosters in my Phoenix backyard).

Opinions anyone?

Thanks in advance!

EDIT: Realized there is a gender area, so my question would probably be more appropriate there (I'll move), but enjoy the pics! Thanks!

had a blue pullet a long time ago. I'm trying to get a few bbs ameraucanas. Right now I have a dozen eggs in the battor hoping they become chicks. This are shipped eggs...from Georgia to Puerto Rico. When I candle I see they are developing but the air cell is looking weird so I'm crossing my fingers in this one. They have 8 days in the bator.

It looks like extended black.

It's very hard to tell this early on. The only thing that would help is the foot size- if there is a drastic difference. In your photos neither look like they have a male stance or saddle feathers so far.

Looking like pullets = no hackle or saddle looking feathering, combs look "yellow" not pink/red, EastNashChick mentions the size of their feet/legs, I has a Wyandotte who I thought was a cockerel when younger as her feet/leg were so much bigger/thick than the rest of the pullets, she's laying but is the dominate hen.

I just meant for me. They are looking very female and foot size helps me with Ameraucanas if I'm not seeing anything else male. I'm sure it's not perfect but I've done at least 7 hatches and it's worked for me. Especially at the age they are in this photo. I can't speak for Wyandottes BC I don't raise them so it might not work there.

I am not an expert and Ameraucana are very hard to sex at young ages but the comb and leg size are the easiest ways to tell. Females have much thinner legs and toes and the pea comb stays very small and close to skull. I think they are both female but like I say it is so hard to tell. I know it's probably driving you nuts.

Also wanted to ask if anybody was been able to obtain a totally black rooster with not one feather with red leakage? I am close but haven't bred a perfect one yet. I have a couple of perfect black hens. --as far as black coloring

I have been told the purple and green shine may have a clue. Anybody have ideas?

400
.

Here's mine that hatched about 3 1/2 weeks ago. Some am. And some polish/am

I have a black AM roo, and @samouw and @ravynfallen do to. I had BBS with a black hen in the mix originally and have had no trouble with black. Now my blues not having leakage is another story...
