Blue Andalusian thread!

If you use the black over a lighter blue, he will improve the color and lacing in some of the cases.  Breeding blues is difficult to get that perfect balance between a perfectly clear slate blue ground color and then a nice strong edging of black on the feathers.  Good luck.

So your saying if we have a blue rooster we need to breed to black hens in order to get blues? Or black rooster to blue hens? If you breed blue to blue, you'll. Get nothing but black chicks?

Blue x blue = 50 % blue, 25 % black, 25 % splash
Blue x black = 50 % blue, 50 % black
Blue x splash = 50 % blue, 50 % splash
Black x splash = 100 % blue
Black x black = 100% black
Splash x splash = 100 % splash

I have many birds from Tom Roebuck's lines (Canadian and American) plus I'll have eggs from a line from Spain this Spring.

Mostly I have cckls and pullets that are way better than anything you can get from a hatchery. Check out blueandalusian.com if you are interested :-)

Thinking about getting Blue Andalusions! Any suggestions

You live in Western NY? How cold do your winters get- These guys have very large combs & wattles, they are a Mediterranean breed and get frost bitten easily from my (limited!) experience with them.

It gets pretty cold. This year is so much worse than normal. -40 wind chills this whole month.Average for January is about 17degrees

As long as you have shelter for them so they can get out of the wind and snow you can maintain them. NYREDS lives in New York and has some really nice birds. You might try contacting him. Just go back through this thread, it won't be far, and you'll see him. Send him a PM.

Ok thanks! I have a 5 Silkies right now and they are doing good in this weather and my coop could be redone . I'm going to put up new paneling come spring.
